Social Media as a Music Producer

One of the main reasons for taking this class and soon applying for the social media minor at Ohio Northern University is to be able to understand how to best format my posts to gain traction in my music career. One of my main goals since learning how to produce is to be able to market the skills I have within music production to earn a profit freelancing for various artists. A lot of music production influencers find it hard to be consistent at posting which makes it hard for someone to gain followers and have active engagement from their community. I'm going to detail my story of learning the landscape of social media and finding my place in it as a producer.

About two years ago I started producing music because my dad got me Fruity Loops Studio which is a digital audio work-station because I had a passion for music since a young age being in band. With this I quickly began fiddling with the various tools at my disposal with some help from one of my friends named Cameron Austin, also known as NugThugProductions online. Cameron taught me the basics which led me to learn how to produce my own style of music which will help me gain more awareness towards my talent. This is where I got the idea to create pages on TikTok and Instagram which I found to be the most popular sites to post music on.

My social media journey did not begin with my own account as one of my other friends named Gabe Harmon and I have very similar music and pop culture tastes which prompted us to create a page on TikTok and Instagram called Wavyboyclub. On this account we posted song of the day and various other trends within the world of the music industry and pop culture, but we did not have the knowledge that I have today to be able to be consistent and have optimized posts. This is what led me to focus the rest of my school time to a minor in social media to help understand the landscape.

Overall as a music producer, there are tons of other producers that are following trends to best bring awareness to their brand which means it is harder to stand out within the music industry. After learning all the terminology and understanding the various tracking statistics of social media it has drastically helped my reach and engagement. One of my main philosophies is regardless of how many people see my posts, the people that truly matter to my goal are the people who engage with my content and wish to collaborate on a piece of art.
