Scheduling Season
With the middle of the semester coming around at ONU there comes a time in everyone's schedule that they must arrange an appointment with their advisor to schedule classes for the upcoming semester. With that being said, my appointment will be within the next two weeks and there are a few tips and tricks I have learned that may be beneficial if you are struggling to find the right classes that fit your career goals. Personally I am a Psychology major with plans to take on the Social Media minor to help build my resume for Human Resources.
Throughout my 5 semesters here at ONU so far, I have learned that formatting a schedule for the entirety of your college career is a very useful tool to help you understand the direction your career is going. Along with choosing the main classes you need for your major it is important to have back-up classes as ONU is a private university and seats fill up rather quickly if you are not an upperclassman. Being a junior I have the privilege of getting first picks at the classes I need to graduate which will make scheduling my classes far easier.
At the start of my college journey I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do with my career but nothing was set in stone until I reached my junior year when I decided I was going to go into the field of HR. Choosing my classes I find it important to survey sites like Linked-in and other business platforms to see what may be required as a skill for the position which I will then find a class that would best fit that skill. This is how I chose Social Media for my minor on top of my Psychology major to better understand human interaction to get the best possible view on a situation to be able to make the decisions HR normally would make. I encourage all of you to do the same as it will alleviate a lot of the stress of not feeling qualified to enter a field and give you more opportunities and options of what you may want to concentrate your focus on.
