The Final Stretch
As the year winds down and things start to cool off from assignments to exam studying, it is important to focus on priotities to be able to get everything done in a timely manner. As I have been dealing with GERD symptoms, it has been harder for me to put forth my full effort in many aspects of my life as I am still trying to manage the symptoms and organize my life in a healthy way to reduce the symptoms to increase my quality of life. Stress and anxiety typically make my symptoms flare up more often than not, which during the final stretch of the semester, stress and anxiety are at the top of my mind with how I move forward. As far as outside of school, managing work and activities with friends has been a big priority of mine, especially hanging out with friends as it helps to rely on my support system during hard times like this.
While I have many projects juggling in the air from the development and marketing of Scenario the game created by Gabe Harmon, as well as my own personal music projects on top of school and work, it is easy to put off the work in every aspect because of the excuse that my symptoms are stopping me from being able to perform them. This in turn creates more stress and anxiety as procrastination does, which does not help these symptoms and creates a gnarly feedback loop that is really stressful to break and hard to cope with mentally and physically. With things in my life happening that are out of my control, a way that has helped reduce some of my stress and anxiety is to get a jump on things and finish them before they have a chance to become a problem and a larger source of stress than they already are.
Juggling doctors appointments, projects, work and family balance, it is important to focus on one thing at a time to not overwhelm myself with the burden of everything piled on top of each other. Overall, training myself in discipline has been really helpful for me, but also stressful. Finding ways to cope with mental health concerns while being able to put forth my best effort in the various aspects of life is something I think everyone should strive for in their own personal life.
You are not alone in this and its so encouraging to see you push through. Best of luck!
