The Grass Is Only Greener Because It's Fertilized With Manure

Have you ever compared yourself to someone who was going through something that seemed way easier to deal with than what you have going on at the moment? Me too, and this feeling is often something I struggle with when it comes to accepting the position I am in. I compare often to other's situations because I find that it helps me to realize that maybe they don't have it as easy as I think they do, which in turn makes the things on my plate seem smaller. Although this is the goal I always have when comparing myself to others, I typically will end upset due to them having more than I do, or me not realizing I have just as much as they do. The idea I'm hinting at here is the ability for one to realize that each individual is living their own life, and their life is as vivid and complex as your own.

This realization is called to sonder. This is something that I have learned about at a young age and have taken with me through my entire life and has allowed me to be comfortable with who I am, and what I am dealing with in life. Comparing my life now, and the amount of responsibilities I am juggling, to someone else's life is something that helps me realize that they are dealing with just as much stress, pressure, and personal concerns as I am which brings me comfort that I am not the only one who feels like they are drowning.

I always try to spread this idea to others, because a lot of the time people compare themselves, they end up thinking things like, "I wish I had it as easy as you" and that just makes the observer more uncomfortable in their own shoes. Everyone has their own life, and being raised in America where everyone can be whoever they want, it is important to respect your own individuality, as to not fall victim to comparing yourself to others and feeling negative towards your own life because of it. I think its also important to realize that yes, we are all individuals with our own lives, but we are all in this together, as corny as that may sound.
