Scenario: A Countdown to Release
Over the course of the last three years, my friend Gabe has been working on a solo video-game project, developed in unity and drawing inspiration from media such as Superliminal, I Spy books, and attempts to capture the feeling of a dream-state like childhood wonder. Since the game is not fully complete, I will leave the description of the game at that point to not spoil. The purpose of this blog is to detail our efforts as a team to form a roll-out schedule to maintain and complete things necessary before the deadline of January 1st, 2026. Things we need to complete before January 1st, which is the proposed release date, are things like the Game Manual, which contains walkthroughs for each level that have been graphically designed from scratch, a storyboard or epilogue entry, how to use the base mechanics, and the system requirements for running the game. Along with the Game Manual, we need to have the game itself finished before the turn of November, to give us two full months to work on promotional content, content strategies, and creating the final release trailer for the game.
To help tackle this beast of a project and ensure it will gain traction on social platforms, we have fragmented the work into sections that are scheduled out by ranges of dates to complete portions of the whole. There are nine levels in this game and the levels themselves that need to be polished to be able to accurately reflect the levels within the walkthrough portion of the Game Manual. Starting yesterday and moving until November, each level will have four days to complete the level design and bug testing phase and the coinciding walkthrough page within the Game Manual. Some levels are exceptions to this rule as they are unfinished as a level, so we have given ourselves more time with certain levels.
After we get the game fully finished and complete the Game Manual by our proposed date of November 6th, we will begin working on creating the final trailer and organizing a content schedule that we will adhere to. We haven't begun generating ideas for content yet as that is still in the future, so we are focusing mainly on the game manual and the game itself before worrying about social platforms. After the game officially releases, we will then send out access keys to multiple YouTubers and influencers to help generate awareness for Scenario, and help boost its engagement on social platforms after release. We also have plans to continue rolling out content concerning updates, community feedback, and maintaining an online presence overall as the overarching brand that created Scenario.
This is not a strict schedule for us, but some dates mentioned are. This structure we imposed should drastically help us stay focuses on the project and be consistent with our approach regarding content, the gameplay and feedback during developer sessions throughout the coming months.
