Implementing Strategy in Social Media

Over the course of the last few years, I have been trying to garner awareness for my music career, with many failed attempts of engagement tests and the lack of return on investment for promotions and advertisements of my brand. Failure however is the best teacher, and being comfortable with that failure can take you a long way toward reaching the goals you have in mind. To help myself build a better understanding of the landscape of social media I started taking classes for a minor in social media here at ONU. So far, I have improved my engagement and focus on things that are actually important like metrics and brand identity, rather than trying to force content into the mainstream by posting consistently without having a solid backing holding up the structure of my brand. Taking this class into consideration of my journey in social media fluency, I hope to learn skills to apply not only to my own social media presence, but also understanding what all goes into planning out a marketing strategy for a professional body.

My top choices for our assignments are The Osborne Family Retrievers and The Hardin County Foundation. Regardless of which one I am assigned I hope to take away an organizational structure of how to build and implement strategy, while prioritizing brand identity and awareness. Being open to failure and working closely with the brand itself to help better understand the brand to provide quality content for their social platforms. Along with building a strategy, I hope to take insights from the people we work with to better understand what resonates with them as a brand, and how to more effectively strategize and market towards specific segments of a population.

Bringing the conversation back to my online presence with music, I hope to better clarify my own understanding and skills in formatting and generating content that appeals to a certain demographic. An issue I face often with social media is being too broad in my approach out of fear I created something too niche.

Overall, I hope to learn valuable takeaways from my experience in this class that I can use to help better structure a strategy for my own branding purposes. Feel free to share some failures or successes throughout your social media journey to highlight lessons you've learned or help someone who may be in the same position you once were.
