The Infamous 21st
Today, December 5th, is my 21st birthday. Tons of people wait their whole lives up until this point because it carries a heavy weight of excitement and freedom in society. It is seen as a rite of passage for many that marks the end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood. Ever since I was 16 and being able to drive I have been talking about reaching this milestone because of the independence I think I would gain. Now that I'm actually turning 21, I realize that there isn't a whole lot of independence gained from being 21 besides being able to purchase alcohol, enter bars and clubs.
Although this is a time for celebration and excitement, it is also a time to reflect upon my life as a whole for being alive for two entire decades. It is crazy to think I am 21, I still feel like I'm 17 in my head most days. I say this is a time for reflection because it is a perfect chance for me to reevaluate who I am as a person and how far I've come to reaching my goals and dreams. Regardless if I have completed my goals or reached my dreams, I can find comfort and pride in the fact that I am much closer to the finish line than I was when I began which I will forever be grateful for.
Whether I decide to stay home and relax with my girlfriend, or go out with the boys, I know that I'm on the right path in life and I am proud of how far I have come in all of my goals and dreams. If anyone else has their 21st birthday coming up I hope you can understand how eye-opening an experience it is to actually be 21 years old.
Ayeeee Happy Birthday homie, I remember my 21st last year it was a fun time. Hopefully, you get the full 21st birthday experience if you know what I mean, lol. Have a great day and enjoy the time you get with your loved ones!
